Mr Bob Chatterjee MBBS MRCS MSc(Distinction) FRCS(Tr&Orth)
Consultant Spinal Surgeon
Mr Bob Chatterjee is a full time Consultant Spinal Surgeon practising in London.
He qualified from Guy’s & St Thomas’ Hospital, London, before undertaking surgical training in Oxford. Awarded a Culyer Foundation Research grant, he wrote his thesis in biomechanics and biomaterials at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, Stanmore and was awarded a distinction for his efforts.
After completing Orthopaedic Specialist training on the Middlesex rotation, London, he was awarded a Royal College of Surgeons Fellowship in spinal deformity & degenerative surgery at the Norfolk & Norwich Hospitals and a Neurosurgical Spinal Fellowship at Addenbrookes Hospital, Cambridge.
His clinical and research interests include minimal access spinal surgery, adult deformity surgery and the biomechanics of lumbar fusion. One of his major passions is teaching and his commitments range from lecturing internationally, to specialist registrar training on several London teaching programmes. He is a national and international tutor in minimally invasive spinal surgery.
He is an active member of the British Association of Spinal Surgeons residing on both education and research committees. He is a spinal advisor to the NHS and is a consultant editor on three periodicals and reviews spinal articles for several journals including the Bone & Joint Journal. In line with his research interests, he holds honorary research contracts at both Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, Stanmore and Norfolk & Norwich University Hospitals.
He is married to Lisa, a fellow Orthopaedic surgeon. He used to have social interests including golf, tennis, rugby, fine wine and dining. However now he only has time for his two daughters aged seven and five.
Dr Simon Lappin MBChB, FRCA, FFICM
Dr Lappin studied medicine at Glasgow University Medical School and has practised medicine in London ever since. His postgraduate anaesthetic training was completed in North Central Thames hospitals in London. He now practices at Barnet and Chase Farm NHS Trust as a Consultant in Anaesthesia, Intensive Care Medicine and Obstetric Anaesthesia. In his anaesthetic practice he specialises in complex spinal surgery.
The other specialist interests in his practice are in Critical Illness Rehabilitation and in Hi-Fidelity Medical Simulation Training. Dr Lappin is the departmental lead for Anaesthetic Simulation Hi-Fidelity Training.
He is a member of The Royal College of Anaesthetists; Fellow of Faculty of Intensive Care Medicine; Member of Obstetric Anaesthetist Association. GMC 4509857
Sue trained in the medical field for two years before joining Bob as his Personal Secretary in September 2013.
Aside from her secretarial career, Sue also teaches Zumba Gold which encourages fitness and a healthy lifestyle.
Jamie studied at Plymouth University and graduated with a degree in music. He also works as a session musician and teaches guitar.
Dr Cherian Thomas MBBS DMRD MD (Radiol) FRCR
Cherian is a Consultant Radiologist at the Royal Free Hospitals NHS Trust. His speciality is musculoskeletal and spinal pathology and works with Mr Chatterjee in both NHS and private sectors. He trained as a registrar in Radiology in Northwick Park hospital and St Bartholomew’s hospital gaining his FRCR from the Royal College of Radiolgists in 1990. He was prestigiously awarded the Gold Medal from the Royal College for the Final FRCR examination in 1990.
Mrs Lisa Astle MBChB MRCS FRCS(Tr&Orth)
Lisa went to medical school at Birmingham University, graduating in 1995. She trained in Orthopaedic surgery in both Bristol and London before being awarded a Royal College of Surgeons Advanced Training Fellowship, involving both Plastic and Orthopaedic Hand Surgery, at the Norfolk & Norwich University Hospitals. Lisa is currently using her knowledge in Orthopaedic Surgery and her Healthcare industry links and contacts to both promote and develop the business further.
